Meghan Markle's Heartfelt Message On Animal Adoption

Meghan Markle, a 'proud rescue dog owner,' writes about joy of adopting

Hey there, friends! Let’s talk about puppy love! Meghan Markle, the ever-charming Duchess of Sussex, might be enjoying some well-deserved maternity leave after welcoming her first royal baby, Archie Harrison, on May 6. But even while on break, she found time to shine a light on the importance of rescuing and adopting animals.

Meghan’s Letter About Her Dogs

Earlier this week, the 37-year-old beauty, known for her grace and compassion, penned a heartfelt letter about her two beloved dogs. One of them is Guy, a rescue pup who made the big move with Meghan from Canada to London after she got engaged to Prince Harry in November 2017. The other is a Labrador puppy that she and Harry adopted in August. This letter was written for the Annual Review of Mayhew, an animal welfare foundation she holds dear.

As Meghan expressed in her letter, “As a proud rescue dog owner, I know firsthand the incredible joy that adopting an animal can bring to your life. The role we play in rehoming and rescuing these animals is crucial, but organizations like Mayhew take it to the next level. Their impact is unmatched.”

Her foreword, written before Archie's arrival as reported by ABC News, reveals a deep connection with Mayhew. Meghan shared, “What stood out to me about Mayhew is their unique community approach. They don’t just focus on rehoming animals; they also work on preventive care to keep pets from ending up in shelters in the first place.”

She elaborated, “From Mayhew’s global education programs to their local efforts with the elderly, homeless, and vulnerable communities, they actively seek solutions that help people keep their pets and provide the necessary support to make that happen.”

Meghan understands that not everyone can care for a pet, but she encourages alternative ways to make a difference. “Adopting a pet can absolutely change your life, but if that’s not possible for you, there are plenty of other ways to get involved,” she wrote. “Volunteer at a shelter, donate canned food or pet supplies, or simply spread the word about the importance of animal adoption.”

    Visiting Mayhew

This past January, Meghan visited the Mayhew organization and spent some quality time with some adorable pups. Besides Mayhew, Meghan is also a royal patron of The National Theatre, The Association of Commonwealth Universities, and Smart Works. Her dedication to these causes shows her commitment to making a positive impact in various aspects of life.

Isn’t this just heartwarming? Meghan’s love for animals and her efforts to support Mayhew truly demonstrate
