Let me tell you a story about Mark Hamill, the guy who brought Luke Skywalker to life and became one of the most iconic voices in entertainment. But before he was saving galaxies far, far away, he was flipping burgers and blending milkshakes at Jack in the Box. Yep, the same Mark Hamill who now commands movie screens worldwide once got fired for being too theatrical. Crazy, right?
During a recent appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Mark opened up about his early days working at a Jack in the Box location near where he lived. “I was always searching for the theatrical in everything,” he recalled with a laugh. “Back then, I was stuck in the kitchen, making shakes and tending to the grill. But I had dreams of working the window, you know, the drive-thru. When I finally got my chance, I thought, why not go all out? So, I decided to channel my inner clown and deliver every order as the Jack in the Box mascot.”
Getting Fired for Being Too Much of a Character

Mark’s manager wasn’t exactly amused by his antics. “He told me to go home and never come back,” Mark said, laughing as he recreated the voice he used for the Jack in the Box clown. “I was fired for being in character! Can you believe that? But hey, if they wanted someone serious, maybe they should’ve hired someone else.”

Revenge Is Sweet (and Voice-Over Work)
Turns out, Mark didn’t need the job. He went on to become one of the most celebrated voice actors of all time, proving his manager wrong in the best way possible. “I remember thinking, ‘One day, I’ll be the Joker, and then you’ll be sorry!’” Mark joked, referencing his legendary role as the voice of the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series. That show aired in 1992, cementing Mark’s place in pop culture history—and showing his former boss just how wrong they were to let him go.
What’s Next for Mark Hamill?
These days, Mark is busier than ever. He’s lending his voice to some of the biggest projects in entertainment, including playing Chucky in the remake of Child’s Play, which hit theaters in June 2019. If that wasn’t enough, he’s also starring in Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and The Last Kids on Earth. And let’s not forget about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, where he reprised his iconic role as Luke Skywalker. While this might’ve marked the end of the Skywalker saga, fans are hopeful it won’t be Mark’s last appearance as the legendary Jedi.

As for the future of Star Wars, Disney president Bob Iger hinted at a potential break after the Skywalker saga concluded. “We haven’t announced any specific plans for movies beyond this,” he told Bloomberg. “There are projects in development, but we haven’t shared them yet. We’ll take a pause and reset after the ninth movie. There will definitely be more Star Wars movies, but there will be a bit of a hiatus.”
For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what’s
