When Jada Pinkett Smith launched her Facebook Watch series, Red Table Talk, she envisioned it as a platform to dive into tough, real-life issues with her mom, Adrienne Banfield-Jones, and her daughter, Willow Smith. But even she wasn’t prepared for the unexpected awkwardness that unfolded during a recent episode centered around pornography.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Jada, now 47, couldn’t help but laugh while recalling the memorable moment. “Let me tell you, that particular episode was a total TMI situation,” she admitted. “I learned way more than I ever wanted to about my mom—and definitely my daughter. For the first time ever, I thought, ‘This is the one time I’ll have a TMI moment at the red table.’ But hey, that’s just how we roll. We’re all about being curious and open-minded.”

Why Did They Decide to Tackle This Controversial Topic?
Jada explained that the idea to discuss pornography stemmed from a collective decision within her team and circle of friends. “We realized that so many women—especially those on our production team and close friends—were dealing with significant challenges in their relationships because of pornography,” she shared. “It’s not something people talk about openly, but it’s a reality for a lot of couples. So, we thought, why not bring it to the table and have an honest conversation about it?”
For Jada, this wasn’t the first time she’d broached the subject with Willow, but it was certainly the first time she had to include her mom in the mix. And let’s be honest, that’s a level of honesty and transparency that most of us would rather avoid!

The Early Days of Willow's Curiosity
Jada shared a story that highlighted just how early these kinds of discussions started in her family. “I remember when Willow was around 10 or 11 years old. She was browsing on Tumblr, and she gave me fair warning. She said, ‘Mom, whatever we come across, it’s not me.’ And I thought, okay, fair enough,” Jada recounted with a chuckle. “Then, as we scrolled through her page, there it was—some of the most hardcore pornography I’ve ever seen. And there she was, nonchalantly saying, ‘Don’t focus on that, Mom. I’m just getting to my stuff.’ It was eye-opening, to say the least. That’s when we knew we needed to have a serious conversation.”
Jada's Bold Approach to Family Conversations
It’s clear that Jada isn’t afraid to tackle uncomfortable topics head-on. Whether it’s discussing pornography or addressing other sensitive subjects, her approach is rooted in honesty and openness. “It’s not easy, but I believe these conversations are necessary,” she said. “We live in a world where information is everywhere, and if we don’t guide our kids, who will?”
