The beloved actress, known for her roles in Alias and 13 Going on 30, opened up about her concerns regarding social media during an interview with Katie Couric on her podcast, “Next Question With Katie Couric.” Garner, who’s a social media pro herself, has strong feelings about keeping her daughter Violet, 13, away from the platform.
“Even if you don’t have famous parents, I worry about what kids are facing these days. The pressure is immense,” Garner shared during the podcast. “Violet attends an all-girl school, and trust me, it’s a significant issue there. Occasionally, she’ll bring up wanting to get Instagram, and I totally understand why. I’m on there, and it’s something fun that I do. But here’s the thing—I don’t want her to mimic my behavior when it comes to social media. I’m trying to model something different for her.”
Why Jennifer Garner Keeps Violet Off Instagram
When asked why she’s so adamant about keeping Violet off Instagram, Garner has a compelling answer. “I tell her, ‘Show me studies that prove teenage girls are happier using Instagram than they are without it, and then we’ll talk,’” she explained. “‘I’ve looked into it, and I don’t see any positive outcomes for you. You can browse my account if you want, but I don’t see any benefit for you to have your own.’”

Her Reluctance to Join Instagram
Garner isn’t exactly a social media enthusiast herself. She only joined Instagram because of her organic baby food company, Once Upon a Farm. “I didn’t jump into it lightly—I was kicking and screaming,” she admitted. “But once I decided to do it, I wanted to do it my way. I wanted to share content that felt authentic and right for me.”
It’s no surprise that Jennifer is known for saying “no” to her kids. During a September 12 appearance on The Tonight Show, she confessed to host Jimmy Fallon that she’s the ultimate fun killer. “If you’re anything like me, I crush the fun. I’m so uncool. I say no to everything,” she joked. “They even call me ‘the dragon.’ But hey, we do have a ‘Yes Day’ to balance it out. It’s all about finding the right mix.”
