When Family Meets Activism: Jane Fonda's Proud Moment

There’s nothing quite like seeing family values passed down from one generation to the next. Jane Fonda, the Hollywood legend who’s spent decades in the spotlight, couldn’t be prouder of her two grandkids, Malcolm and Viva Vadim, for stepping up alongside her in a fight that’s close to her heart—climate change. On November 29, the three-generation team made headlines when they joined Jane’s weekly rally in Washington, D.C., proving that activism can truly run in the family.

At 81 years young, Jane has been leading the charge in D.C. for the past two months, dedicating herself to raising awareness about climate change. Her efforts have been nothing short of inspiring, and this time, she had a special crew by her side. Both Malcolm, 20, and Viva, 17, joined their grandmother in making a bold statement, even getting arrested as part of the protest. Jane, ever the proud grandma, took to Instagram to share the moment with her fans.

Jane hasn’t been alone in her mission. Over the past two months, she’s been joined by a roster of famous friends, including her Grace and Frankie costar Sam Waterston and Cheers alum Ted Danson. Her longtime friend Lily Tomlin has also expressed her intention to join Jane in the near future, proving that the fight against climate change is a cause that resonates with many.

Since October 11, Jane has been leading strikes every Friday in D.C., a movement she’s dubbed “Fire Drill Friday.” She announced her plans to rally for 14 weeks in support of climate change in an email to The Washington Post. Her commitment to the cause is so strong that she even relocated to D.C. to focus on the protests until filming for the final season of Grace and Frankie resumes.

In her email, Jane explained her motivations: “I’m going to take my body, which is kind of famous and popular right now because of the [television] series, and I’m going to go to D.C. and I’m going to have a rally every Friday. It’ll be called ‘Fire Drill Friday.’ And we’re going to engage in civil disobedience and we’re going to get arrested every Friday.”

Jane’s dedication to the cause and her ability to inspire those around her, including her grandkids, is nothing short of remarkable. She’s proving that it’s never too late to make a difference and that activism truly can be a family affair.
