So, here's the deal: Last year, whispers were buzzing around like bees in a hive, hinting that Rosie O'Donnell might take Julie Chen's seat on The Talk. But if you thought that was a done deal, think again. The legendary TV host set the record straight during a candid chat on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.

Clearing the Air: Rosie O'Donnell on Joining The Talk

“They didn’t ask me to be on The Talk,” Rosie, now 57, bluntly told Andy Cohen during the June 24 episode of the show. She continued, “I know there were rumors floating around that they did, but the truth is, I just filled in for Julie Chen when she needed someone to step in. And let me tell you, I wasn’t the only one — there were plenty of us stepping up to the plate.”

Logistical Challenges: Why Rosie Wouldn't Fit Into The Talk Gig

Even if Rosie had been open to the idea, her busy life in New York City might've made it tough to make the leap. “I live in New York, and trust me, moving my whole family out to California would be no small feat,” the Emmy-winning host admitted. “That’s why it was never really on the table.”

While Rosie enjoyed her occasional appearances on the show, she confessed that steering clear of political discussions might not have been her style. “The Talk is all about keeping things light and fun, and that’s exactly what they want,” Rosie explained. “But for me, diving into the deeper, darker corners of politics and exploring what we can do as Americans is where my heart lies. So, it just wouldn’t have been the right fit.”

How the Rumors Started: Julie Chen's Departure

The buzz about Rosie joining The Talk began swirling when Julie Chen revealed her decision to step down from the show back in September. In a heartfelt video message, Julie said, “I’ve been with The Talk since it first aired nine years ago, and the cast, crew, and staff have become like family to me. But at this moment in my life, I need to spend more time with my husband and our young son. That’s why I’ve made the difficult decision to leave The Talk.”

    What's Next for The Talk?

In January, CBS announced that Dancing With the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba would step into Julie's shoes as a cohost. But the show faced another shake-up in April when Sara Gilbert, a beloved cohost and executive producer, decided to leave to focus on her family and other career pursuits. Enter Marie Osmond, who is set to take over after Sara's final show on August 2.
