Let’s talk about one of TV’s beloved heartthrobs—Mario Lopez. The guy who made our hearts race as A.C. Slater on Saved by the Bell recently opened up to Closer Weekly about something that might surprise you. Guess what? His two kids—Gia, 8, and Dominic, 5—are not exactly fans of the show that made him famous. Crazy, right?
Now, hear this from Mario himself: “I tried showing it to them, but they just don’t get into it,” he confessed while promoting his new collection of men’s watches, jewelry, and shoes. But here’s the thing—Mario’s not letting it get him down. “They aren’t into it right now, but we’ll see. Hopefully, they’ll warm up to it in the future!” he added with a hopeful smile.
Would Mario Ever Consider a Reboot?
When asked if he’d ever be open to revisiting Saved by the Bell for a reboot, Mario was candid about his thoughts. “Look, I’ve got a lot on my plate right now, but I’m always open to it,” he shared. “If the timing ever worked out and the premise sounded fun, I’d definitely consider it. But let’s be real—we’re a little too old to play high school students again!”

But Mario didn’t stop there. He had an interesting idea for the future. “You know what would be cool? If my kids ever got old enough to take on some of the iconic roles,” he mused. “Gia could totally pull it off, and even Nico might be great in one of those parts!”
Still Close After All These Years
Even though Saved by the Bell ended over 25 years ago, Mario says the cast is still as tight-knit as ever. “We all talk pretty regularly. It’s like having a real-life high school reunion, but with families involved,” he said with a chuckle. “You see each other whenever life allows, and it’s always a blast.”
Just last April, Mario joined forces with Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Elizabeth Berkley, and Tiffani Thiessen for a mini-reunion dinner in California. Mark-Paul even shared a photo of the group on Instagram, captioning it, “This is what 30+ years of friendship looks like…” Talk about a heartwarming moment!

Excited for Baby Number Three
Mario’s life isn’t just about reminiscing about the past. He and his wife, Courtney Lopez, are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their third child. While they haven’t decided on the baby’s gender yet, Mario is pumped about the mystery. “We’re super excited to find out what we’re having,” he said. “We’ve always waited until the birth to discover the gender, so it’s always a fun surprise. Plus, we already have one of each, so this baby will be the tiebreaker!”
And if you think Mario’s hands are full already, wait till you hear about his latest venture. He’s diving headfirst into the world of fashion with his own line. “I’ve always wanted to explore this space, and I’m thrilled with how it turned out,” he said. “I wanted something that felt cool, everyday wear, but with a bit of style and a Latin flair. It really represents who I am, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.”
So, while Mario’s kids might not be fans of Saved by the Bell today, there’s always hope they’ll grow to love it. After all, who wouldn’t want to relive the magic of Bayside High?
