Why Queen Elizabeth And Prince Philip Missed Archie's Christening

The real reason why the Queen wasn't at Archie's Windsor christening

Let's talk about a special royal event that happened recently. When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were celebrating baby Archie’s christening with other members of the royal family, two iconic figures were noticeably absent: Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Now, you might be wondering why the most prominent royals weren’t there for such a significant moment. But there’s a perfectly good reason for it.

Why the Queen and Prince Philip Couldn’t Attend

At 93 and 98 years old respectively, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip weren’t able to make it to their great-grandson’s christening not because they didn’t want to, but because they had prior commitments. They are believed to be at Sandringham, their country estate. It’s important to note that Queen Elizabeth didn’t attend Prince William’s son, Prince Louis’s, christening in 2018 either, after attending Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s. So, this isn’t the first time the Queen has missed a christening due to other duties or engagements.

What Happened at the Christening?

While Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh couldn’t be there, you can bet they’ll hear all about Archie’s special day from the other family members who attended, like Prince Charles and Kate Middleton. The official Instagram account of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex also shared a statement about the christening on Saturday, July 6.

  • The statement expressed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s happiness in sharing the joy of this day with members of the public who have been incredibly supportive since the birth of their son. “They thank you for your kindness in welcoming their first born and celebrating this special moment,” the caption read alongside two new photos. It was clear they wanted to express their gratitude to everyone who has been part of their journey so far.

    A Royal Tradition

There’s something truly special about royal christenings. The Sussexes mentioned that their son, Archie, was baptized wearing the handmade replica of the royal christening gown, a piece that has been worn by royal infants for the last 11 years. The original Royal Christening Robe, made of fine Honiton lace lined with white satin, was commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1841 and first worn by her eldest daughter. This tradition connects the past with the present in a beautiful and meaningful way.
