A Devoted Husband Stands By His Beloved Star Amidst a Long Cancer Battle

Valerie Harper, the iconic star of Rhoda, has been courageously fighting cancer for years. Throughout this challenging time, her husband, Tony Cacciotti, has remained steadfast in ensuring her comfort and well-being. When doctors recently suggested moving Valerie to hospice care, Tony, after over four decades of shared love and commitment, respectfully declined. His unwavering dedication to Valerie is nothing short of inspiring.

In a heartfelt Facebook post shared on Tuesday, July 22, Tony, now 79, expressed his deep devotion. "I’ve been told by doctors to place Val in hospice care, but I can’t—and I won’t," he wrote. "Our 40 years of shared commitment to each other mean everything to me. And because of the incredible good deeds she’s brought into our lives while she’s been here on earth, I simply can’t let her go just yet."

Valerie's Battle Against Cancer: A Shocking Diagnosis

Valerie's journey with cancer began in 2013 when she was diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a condition where cancer cells invade the protective membrane surrounding the brain. This diagnosis came as a shock to Tony and Valerie, especially since she had triumphed over lung cancer just four years prior in 2009. Known for her role on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Valerie's resilience and determination have been an inspiration to many.

A Commitment to Comfort and Care

Though Tony acknowledges the doctors’ professional advice and concern, he cannot imagine stepping away from Valerie’s side. "We will continue moving forward as long as the powers above allow us," he shared, adding that he is doing "my absolute best to make Val as comfortable as possible." His dedication reflects the deep love and respect the couple shares, even in the face of adversity.
