Priscilla Presley Shares Her Thoughts On Austin Butler As Elvis In Upcoming Biopic

Priscilla Presley Reacts to Austin Butler's Performance in Elvis Film

It’s been just over a week since the announcement that actor Austin Butler would step into the legendary shoes of Elvis Presley for an upcoming biopic. Fans have been buzzing ever since, and now the late rock 'n' roll icon's former wife, Priscilla Presley, has spoken out about the casting choice. Let’s dive into what she had to say.

A Candid Reaction from Priscilla Presley

Priscilla Presley, the 74-year-old beauty who was once married to the "King of Rock 'n' Roll," was asked about her thoughts on Austin Butler playing her ex-husband in the highly anticipated film. Her response? Well, let’s just say it wasn’t exactly glowing. “I don’t know,” she told RadarOnline.com while out and about on Wednesday, July 24. Now, that’s not exactly a ringing endorsement, but hey, it’s not a total dismissal either.

When asked who she'd like to see play her own character in the film, Priscilla laughed and agreed with photographers who suggested singer Lana Del Rey for the role. “I like Lana a lot,” the actress, known for her role in Dallas, said. It seems Priscilla has some ideas of her own about casting, even if she’s not entirely sold on Austin Butler’s choice for Elvis.

Austin Butler: The Man Behind the Blue Suede Shoes

News that Austin Butler, a young actor just 27 years old, was set to don the iconic blue suede shoes of Elvis Presley first broke on July 15. Warner Bros. Pictures made the official announcement that he had been cast as Elvis in Baz Luhrmann’s highly anticipated biopic. Priscilla, who was married to the "Jailhouse Rock" singer from 1967 to 1973 and remained close friends until his death in August 1997, might not be the biggest fan of the choice, but Austin is undoubtedly thrilled.

“I am just profoundly honored that Baz has invited me on this journey with him,” Austin told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet premiere of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood on July 22. “It’s an extraordinary privilege. And I just feel so blessed to be working with such singular directors like him and Quentin Tarantino.” It’s clear that Austin sees this role as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and he’s not taking it lightly.
