It’s been 45 years since the curtain fell on the final episode of The Brady Bunch, but the bonds formed during those days of filming have stood the test of time. Maureen McCormick, who played Marcia Brady, recently opened up about the profound life lessons she learned from her on-screen mom, the late Florence Henderson. The warmth and wisdom Florence shared have left an indelible mark on Maureen’s life.
A Lifetime of Joy and Lessons
Speaking exclusively to Closer Weekly at the HollyRod Foundation’s DesignCare Gala on July 27, Maureen shared how Florence taught her the importance of finding joy in life. “The biggest lesson Florence gave me was the ability to find joy—big, life-changing joy,” Maureen said with a heartfelt smile. “I spent countless hours with her before she passed away. She was a guiding light for me, and she taught me so much about embracing joy. Through all the ups and downs of life, her teachings have helped me rediscover happiness in ways I never imagined.”
At 62 years old, Maureen carries these lessons with her, allowing them to shape her perspective and enrich her life. “It’s amazing how much impact one person can have on another,” she reflected. “Florence wasn’t just my TV mom; she was a true mentor and friend.”

Florence Henderson: A Mentor Beyond the Screen
Maureen played Marcia Brady, the eldest daughter in the iconic sitcom, while Florence portrayed her loving mother, Carol Brady. Their on-screen relationship mirrored the deep connection they shared off-screen. Florence, who tragically passed away in 2016 at the age of 82 after a career that included stints on Dancing With the Stars, was more than just a co-star to Maureen. She was a source of inspiration and guidance.
Building Positive Relationships
When asked about other lessons she’s carried through life, Maureen emphasized the importance of surrounding yourself with positive, uplifting people. “Be around individuals who lift you up, not tear you down,” she advised. “Life is so much better when you’re surrounded by people who nurture you and whom you nurture in return. It’s all about working together and creating a supportive environment.”
Maureen’s philosophy extends beyond personal relationships to a broader vision of inclusion. “To me, inclusion for everyone is a huge life lesson,” she added. “My father always taught me to look for the love in every human being. That’s something I carry with me every day. It’s about finding the good in others and embracing it.”

A Brady Reunion for the Ages
On July 25, the original cast of The Brady Bunch reunited for the first time since the 2002 TV movie The Brady Bunch in the White House. The occasion? HGTV’s four-part series titled A Very Brady Renovation. Joining Maureen were fellow cast members Barry Williams (Greg Brady), Christopher Knight (Peter Brady), Mike Lookinland (Bobby Brady), Eve Plumb (Jan Brady), and Susan Olsen (Cindy Brady). It was a momentous event that brought back memories of their time together.
The house featured in the renovation series is the very same one used for exterior shots in the original sitcom. “It’s incredible to see how the legacy of The Brady Bunch continues to thrive,” Maureen said. “We’ve all grown and changed, but our bond remains as strong as ever.”
