Let's face it—everyone's been wondering what Princess Diana might have thought about her sons’ choices in partners. Prince William married Duchess Kate, and Prince Harry tied the knot with Duchess Meghan. Now, legendary journalist Katie Couric has weighed in, and she believes Diana would have been thrilled with her new family members.
Katie, who recently spoke with Us Weekly, said, “I think she would love them.” The 62-year-old journalist went on to explain why. “They’re thoroughly modern women, and I think they exhibit the best of Diana’s qualities, which include caring about something greater than yourself and committing yourself to worthwhile causes.” It's hard to argue with that, isn't it?
Modern Women Who Reflect Diana's Spirit

Kate and Meghan have certainly captured the hearts of the royal family and the public alike. They’ve even won over Queen Elizabeth herself. But as Katie Couric reflects, there’s one thing she regrets: Princess Diana never had the chance to meet them or their children.

Katie said, “I’m so sorry that she can’t see her grandchildren or be with her daughters-in-law.” Yet, despite the public’s tendency to stir up drama, Katie believes Diana, Kate, and Meghan would have formed a beautiful bond. “They would get along famously,” she stated. And who could argue with that?
Remembering Diana: A Heartfelt Interview
In June 1996, Katie Couric sat down with Princess Diana for an interview that revealed more about the princess than anyone expected. Recalling the moment, Katie admitted she felt deep sadness for Diana when the princess spoke about her “empty house” in London.
Katie shared, “I said something like, ‘You must be exhausted traveling and meeting so many people and having to shake hands with all these strangers. Are you excited to go home?’” Her response struck a chord. “I will never forget her response: ‘I would be, but I’m going home to an empty house.’” This was during a particularly challenging time as she finalized her divorce from Prince Charles.
Katie continued, “My heart broke a little for her. ‘Why don’t you invite some friends over and have a slumber party?’ I playfully suggested. She just tilted her head and looked at me quizzically.” It was a poignant moment that stayed with Katie forever.
