Wendy Williams Sparks Drama With Christie Brinkley: What Really Happened?

Wendy Williams Thinks Christie Brinkley's 'DWTS' Injury Looked 'Fake'

Wow, hold onto your hats, folks! Just hours after Wendy Williams hinted that Christie Brinkley might be faking an injury so her daughter, Sailor Lee Brinkley-Cook, could step in for her on this season of Dancing with the Stars, the iconic American supermodel had something to say about Wendy's accusations. Let's dive into the drama and see what unfolded.

Christie Brinkley Reacts to Wendy's Claims

Christie Brinkley, the stunning 65-year-old beauty queen, who was initially set to appear on Season 28 of Dancing with the Stars, found herself at the center of a storm after breaking her arm. In a candid interview with People, she revealed just how blindsided she was by Wendy's accusations. Bursting into tears, she confessed, "I’m totally shocked because I have been there for Wendy Williams. That is so weird. I have to give her a call… I’m really stunned."

What Happened on The Wendy Williams Show

So, here's what went down. On The Wendy Williams Show, the topic of Christie’s situation was brought up after the National Lampoon’s Vacation actress announced her exit from the show via Instagram on Monday, September 16. Wendy, during her segment, commented on Christie's replacement, which was aired on Good Morning America the same day.

Wendy, 55, wasn't holding back. She said, "She fractured her shoulder and her wrist practicing over the weekend. Well, that looked fake as hell." Wendy continued with her critique, "Let me tell you what I see. What I see is a 65-year-old hot stuff who looks like if you were going to fracture anything, you should have said the tailbone. I don’t see a wrist and a shoulder being fractured, but that was real cute."

    Wendy's Speculation About the Injury

The Ask Wendy author didn’t stop there. She went on to suggest that Christie might have orchestrated her injury so her 21-year-old model daughter could take her place in the dancing competition. Wendy speculated, "Here’s my thought, OK. Dancing with the Stars called Christie Brinkley and said, 'Do you want to do Dancing with the Stars? And she said, 'Yes,'” Wendy explained. “After she got off the phone, that’s where she plotted her scheduled [injury]. She signed up knowing that she put her daughter in there. You know her daughter is beautiful."

Wendy further added, "Sailor is a Sports Illustrated model, but that’s not like being Kendall Jenner — supermodel of the world. In order for girls to get this leg up, it takes more than beauty. You have to have cash. There’s a lot of eyeballs watching, and Christie really doesn’t need that."

While Wendy seemed confident in her theory, Christie was heartbroken when she shared the news about her injury. "Shattering my arm was quite literally a crushing disappointment, I never ever want to let anyone down," the Vegas Vacation actress, who is also the mom of Alexa Ray Joel, 33, and Jack Paris Brinkley-Cook, 24, wrote just hours before she was set to dance on stage.

    Sailor Steps In

Despite the setback, Christie managed to find a silver lining in the situation. She confirmed that her daughter Sailor would step in, writing, "Sailor always meets her challenges head on and realized she did not want to be defined by her fears." She continued, "So with just hours to learn my routine, she is turning my defeat or should I say two left feat [sic] into her own victory of courage! … And Sailor, thank you for taking a very disappointing turn of events into something very special!"

Be sure to catch Sailor on Season 28 of Dancing with the Stars airing on ABC every Monday at 8 p.m. ET!
