Let’s talk about one of Hollywood’s most cherished friendships. Since they first stepped onto the set of Grease, John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John have shared a bond that’s as strong as it is inspiring. Recently, John opened up about his dear friend Olivia during her third battle with breast cancer, and let me tell you, it’s nothing short of heartwarming.
At 65 years old, John spoke candidly with Us Weekly at the Los Angeles premiere of his latest film, The Fanatic, on August 22. When asked about Olivia, John didn’t hold back in sharing how proud he is of her resilience. “She’s doing great,” he said with genuine admiration. “And she looks fantastic! I’m so proud of her. … I mean, have you ever seen anyone look like that?”

John Travolta's Praise for Olivia Newton-John's Strength
John didn’t stop at just a simple update. He went on to heap praise on Olivia, marveling at her strength and determination. “Amazing. Technically seems impossible. And she’s pulling it off like I’ve never seen anybody [do],” he gushed. It’s clear that John holds Olivia in the highest regard, not just as a friend, but as an inspiration to all who know her story.

Even though it’s been years since they last worked together on-screen, their connection remains as strong as ever. “We were together not that long ago, about three months ago, and we text each other all the time,” John shared with the outlet. “It’s wonderful. … If I go to see her in her show, we go backstage and hang out, and I watch the show and all that. If I go to see her personally, we usually have dinner and catch up. And recently we’ve been talking about trying to do something together.”

Olivia Newton-John Opens Up About Their Bond
John isn’t the only one who has spoken about their special connection. Olivia herself has opened up about their relationship, shedding light on why they never took it to the next level. On the No Filter podcast with Mia Freedman, Olivia explained, “We were both with other people when we were filming (Grease) and I think, respectfully, it just didn’t happen.”
She described their bond as “sisterly” and expressed gratitude for how it kept the tension and chemistry alive on-screen. “I think it was good, because I think it kept the tension there and the chemistry. It might have been a real disaster had we decided to date or we had a falling out or something,” Olivia reflected. “So I think it was just as well that it didn’t happen. But we’re still great friends.”
It’s truly a beautiful thing to witness such a strong and enduring friendship. These two continue to inspire us with their unwavering support for each other, proving that some bonds only grow stronger with time.
