Jennifer Garner's Honest Take On Being A 'No-Fun Mom'

Jennifer Garner's Daughter Affectionately Calls Her "Fun-Killer" Mom

Let’s talk about Jennifer Garner, shall we? You’d think having Jennifer Garner as a mom would be like living in a fairy tale, right? But according to one of her daughters, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. That’s because, as the actress admitted, she’s not exactly the "fun" type of mom. Let me tell you, she’s owning it in the most relatable way possible.

Jennifer Garner Spills the Beans on The Tonight Show

During her appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Jennifer Garner opened up about her parenting style. She joked, “If you’re like me, I kill the fun.” The star of 13 Going on 30 went on to say, “I am so lame. I say no to everything. They call me the dragon. They’ve got all these names for me.” Now, if that doesn’t make you feel like you’re in good company as a parent, I don’t know what does. And believe it or not, one of her kids even wrote her a note about it. Talk about honest feedback!

A Special Day for Fun: Yes Day!

But don’t worry, Jennifer’s kids—Violet, 13, Seraphina, 10, and Samuel, 7, whom she shares with ex-husband Ben Affleck—aren’t completely deprived of fun. There’s a special time called “Yes Day,” where Jennifer lets her guard down and doesn’t shoot down every request. Now, that sounds like a win-win situation, right? But here’s the catch: “A 13-year-old and a 7-year-old have different ideas about what they’d like to get out of ‘Yes Day,’” the Golden Globe winner explained. “They have to agree because it’s just one day.” And what do they agree on? Making their mom look silly, of course. Jennifer admitted, “The one thing they can agree on is basically making an ass out of me.” Sounds fair to me!

This isn’t the first time Jennifer has shared something quirky she does with her kids. Recently, she revealed a game she plays to get her children to try new foods. “I’ll say, ‘Just try a bite of this,’ and they’ll say, ‘Can we play ‘Like it, Love it, Want More of it?’” the A-lister told theSkimm. “They’ll take a bite, and we’ll narrate it like we’re a broadcast announcer.” Now, that’s what I call creative parenting. Jennifer even acted it out, saying, “We’ll say, ‘Oh, look, Sam Affleck has the meatball on his fork. The fork is going to his mouth. Sam Affleck is … it is in his mouth. He is chewing! He’s chewing, he’s chewing, he’s swallowing! You can’t tell what he’s thinking — what is he thinking? And the verdict is … !’” It’s clear that while her kids may call her a no-fun mom, she’s definitely a creative and engaging one!
