As the holiday season kicks into high gear, people everywhere are finding ways to connect with loved ones. For country music legend Pam Tillis, this year holds special meaning as she not only plans to spend time with her family but also to honor her late parents, who are no longer with her.
In an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly at the 2019 Country Music Awards on November 13, the 62-year-old singer opened up about how she plans to keep the memories of her parents alive during the Thanksgiving season. "This is the second year in a row I've lost a parent," Pam shared, her voice carrying the weight of those recent losses. "Both of them passed away in November. So, this Thanksgiving is going to be emotional, but our family has decided to celebrate the way they would have wanted. We're going to cook just like Mom used to and do everything we can to keep their spirit alive in our hearts. It's all about celebrating the love and care they gave us throughout our lives," she added with a warm smile.
A Family United
Pam wasn’t the only one touched by these losses. Born in 1957 to Mel and Doris Tillis, Pam is one of six siblings—sisters Hannah, Cindy, and Carrie, and brothers Mel Jr. and Connie. Together, they’ve made a pact to stick together, even as life moves forward without their parents. "We're setting places for both of them at the table," Pam explained. "It's important to us to make them proud by staying close as a family. In today's world, it's easy for families to drift apart, but we've promised each other that we won't let that happen. Our bond is stronger than ever, and it's because of the values our parents instilled in us."

A Life Shaped by Music
For Pam, music has always been more than a career—it’s been a family tradition. Growing up surrounded by melodies, she recalls moments that shaped her love for the craft. "When I was just a little girl, I remember my dad placing me inside his guitar case for a nap," Pam reminisced in her conversation with Closer Weekly. "Music was always around me, from the moment I was born. Whether it was genetic or environmental, I can't say for sure, but I knew from the start that music was my destiny. It was the only path I ever imagined for myself."
