Life flies by so quickly. One moment, you're holding your newborn in your arms, and the next, they're packing their bags for college. For actor Dean McDermott, this reality is sinking in as his oldest son, Jack, is set to turn 21 on October 10. Speaking candidly to Closer Weekly, Dean admitted that watching Jack grow up has been a rewarding experience, but it also reminds him of his own passage of time.
Jack Turning 21: A Milestone for Dean
During a VIP Preview Night event for “Nights of the Jack” on October 2, Dean shared his thoughts on his son's upcoming birthday. "He’s a really good kid," Dean said with pride. "It just reminds me that I’m old." As a father of six—Jack, Liam (12), Stella (11), Hattie and Finn (both 7), and Beau (2)—Dean feels incredibly blessed. Despite the challenges of parenting, he finds immense joy in raising his children.
Dean's Parenting Philosophy
Dean credits his mother, a single parent and a strong woman, for instilling values in him that he now passes on to his own kids. "I have been blessed," he expressed. "All my kids are really, really good kids, you know? All I can do is raise them the way I was taught by my mom. She always wanted to raise me as a gentleman, and that’s what I aim to do with my own children." Whether it's teaching manners or instilling respect, Dean is committed to raising kind, polite individuals.

Instilling Values in the Next Generation
Dean shared an Instagram post celebrating Jack's 20th birthday, showcasing the pride he feels for his son. "Please help me wish this beautiful young man @thejackmonty a Happy 20th Birthday!!" Dean wrote. "So proud of the man you’ve become. Have the most amazing day my boy. We love you very much!!!!" For Dean, parenting isn't just about discipline; it's about building character. "I do that both with the boys and girls," he explained. "I want to raise really nice human beings who say 'please' and 'thank you.' It’s a simple thing, but it goes so far."
Dean's efforts seem to be paying off. He often receives compliments about his children's politeness, which reinforces his parenting philosophy. "People always tell me that my kids are so polite, and I say that’s the best thing that I could hear," he gushed. "I want to raise nice human beings who don’t talk back, respect authority, and are good people."
Dean's Journey Through Marriage and Parenthood
Not all of Dean's parenting journey has been straightforward. He shares Jack with his ex-wife, Mary Jo Eustace, whom he married in 1998. At the time, they believed their union would last forever, but they eventually divorced in 2006 after more than a decade together. Dean later found love again with Tori Spelling, whom he married the same year. Together, they have five children—Liam, Stella, Hattie, Finn, and Beau.

Tori shares Dean's sentiments about their life together. "I’m madly in love with my husband," she gushed at the same event. "I’m really blessed, 14 years. 14 in May. Yeah, I look at him every day and I’m like, I’m so in love with him. Even when I’m mad at him, I look at him and think he’s so hot." With a loving wife and six respectful kids, Dean has built a life filled with love and respect.
