Let’s talk about one of Hollywood’s most beloved stars, Annette Bening. Sure, she’s an award-winning actress with a career that spans decades, but what truly matters to her isn’t just the films or accolades—it’s being a mom to her four incredible kids. Annette’s got her priorities straight, and family is at the top of that list.
“You know, I feel incredibly fortunate that I get to do work that I absolutely adore, and I want my kids to see that,” the 61-year-old told Closer Weekly exclusively during the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of her movie Hope Gap. “I want them to find something in their lives that they’re passionate about, something they can chase after with all their heart. It’s about growth, learning, and figuring out who they are in this world.”
On Parenting: A Love Like No Other
Annette shares her life with four children—Stephen, 27, Benjamin, 25, Isabel, 22, and Ella, 19—all with her husband, the legendary Warren Beatty. When it comes to family, Annette talks about a kind of love that’s deeper than anything else in her life. “There’s love for your parents, your siblings, your spouse, your friends—but the bond you have with your kids? There’s nothing like it,” she explains. “It’s intense, powerful, and it shapes the way I see the world. It’s a connection that’s so unique, so meaningful.”

The Empty Nest: A New Chapter
Now that all of Annette and Warren’s kids are grown and out of the house, things are a little different. “I get it—they’re adults now, and they’re off building their own lives. I’m so proud of them for that,” Annette says with a mix of pride and nostalgia. “But let’s be real, I still try to get them to text me as often as possible. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. You know how it goes.”
Still Together, Still Strong
Even though their kids have flown the coop, Annette and Warren, who’ve been married since 1992, still have each other. They’ve even carved out little date nights for themselves. “We just enjoy spending time together, talking about everything under the sun,” Annette shared with Closer Weekly during the opening night of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons on Broadway in New York City earlier this year. “And, yeah, we talk a lot about politics. Can’t escape that these days!”
For Annette, the perfect Mother’s Day isn’t about gifts or grand gestures—it’s about being surrounded by the people she loves most. “Honestly, the best Mother’s Day is just being with my kids and Warren. That’s all I need,” she says with a warm smile. “It’s so sweet, isn’t it?”
