Missing Her Grown Kids, but Thriving in Her Career

Let's talk about Annette Bening. The iconic actress, who’s had an incredible career spanning decades, recently opened up about her life post-kids. With all four of her children with husband Warren Beatty now grown and out of the house, Annette admits she misses them more than she thought she would. Speaking candidly to Closer Weekly at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of her latest film Hope Gap, she said, "I really miss them, quite frankly." But she also understands that her kids are adults now, living their own lives. "I love that, and I’m really proud of them," she added with a chuckle. "I try to get them to text me as often as possible, but they’re busy, you know?"

A Thriving Career Keeps Her on Her Toes

While she may miss her kids, Annette Bening has plenty to keep her busy. At 61, she's still rocking the film industry with a thriving career that continues to impress. Her latest role as Senator Dianne Feinstein in the drama The Report has already generated buzz for awards season. The film, which hits theaters on November 15, dives into the investigation of torture by U.S. troops during the George W. Bush administration. Could this be the year she finally takes home that elusive Oscar after four previous nominations? "I’ve been around this business for a while," she says with a thoughtful expression. "I do the work and put it out there and see what happens. It’s all part of the journey."

Life at Home with Warren Beatty

When she’s not on set, Annette enjoys quality time at home with her husband Warren Beatty, who’s now 82, and their beloved dog. "We got her as a tiny puppy, and now she’s a big, beautiful girl," Annette shares with a smile. "She’s such a doll, and we absolutely adore taking her on walks. It’s a great way to unwind and enjoy each other’s company."

In this new chapter of life, Annette finds joy in deepening her connections with her friends. "You can connect with your women friends in such a profound way during this time," she explains. "I’ve had some of these friendships since I was a little girl, and they’re still so meaningful. We have dinner together, share wine, talk about everything under the sun, and laugh until we cry." She also cherishes her close bond with her parents, Arnett, 93, and Shirley, 89. "They’re incredible people, and my siblings and I spend a lot of time with them," she adds. "We have a big, extended family, and we make it a point to get together whenever we can."

    Supportive Roots from Childhood

Annette’s family has always been her foundation. "My parents were incredibly supportive throughout my life," she recalls. "They never told me I couldn’t do what I wanted to do, even when I didn’t land my first film role until I was 30." That first role came in the 1988 comedy The Great Outdoors, starring Dan Aykroyd and John Candy. "They believed in me, and that meant everything," she says with gratitude.
