Co-Parenting Like Champions
Even though Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber aren’t together anymore after 11 years of love, they’ve got one thing absolutely dialed in: their relationship as co-parents. And let me tell you, it’s not just about splitting duties—it’s about creating a harmonious environment for their kids. Naomi, now 51, shared her thoughts with the Sunday Times, and what she said is pure gold.
“Having a good relationship has always been our endgame, and we’ve put a lot of energy and effort into making that so,” she explained. “Now, don’t get me wrong—it’s not always easy. As they say in America, it’s not a cakewalk. But it’s an absolute priority because it matters so much to the kids. You see, kids can get anxious over so many things. Knowing that their parents can be in the same room and actually enjoy each other’s company? That’s a gift. It means the world to them.”
Doing Things Differently
Naomi and Liev were together from 2005 to 2016, and during that time, they welcomed two beautiful boys, Sasha, now 12, and Samuel, 11. This isn’t the first time Naomi has opened up about the importance of maintaining a strong co-parenting relationship. Back in 2019, during an interview with PorterEdit for their August cover story, she shared how proud she is of the way they’ve handled things.

“We’re doing things very differently now,” Naomi said. “It might sound corny, but I’m really proud of us. We’ve made it our absolute priority to be good and kind to each other, and we’re fully committed to that. It’s not just about the kids—it’s about us as people, too. We’re proof that love can evolve, even when the relationship changes.”

Liev's Perspective
Meanwhile, Liev Schreiber, 52, has also spoken about how fortunate he feels to still have such a positive relationship with Naomi. In an interview with Hamptons Magazine, he opened up about the balance they’ve managed to strike. “We were a good balance that way,” Liev said. “I was very forthcoming, and she was great at reeling me in when I got too intense. And we still have that dynamic, which I’m incredibly grateful for.”

But even though Liev seems to have parenting figured out, he’s not afraid to admit that it’s far from easy. “It’s terribly, terribly, terribly difficult,” he confessed. “You worry about everything. You worry about this, you worry about that. But here’s the thing—you don’t really need to worry that much. Our kids are capable. They’ve got everything they need to navigate this world and do what they’re meant to do. No matter what challenges come their way, they’ll find a way to rise above it.”
Putting It All Into Perspective
At the end of the day, both Naomi and Liev understand that their relationship isn’t just about them—it’s about setting the stage for their children to thrive. By prioritizing kindness, respect, and open communication, they’re proving that love doesn’t have to end just because a romantic relationship does. It’s a lesson we could all stand to learn.
