Here we are, just when we thought 2020 was rolling along smoothly! Carrie Underwood has announced that she won't be returning as a cohost for the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards next year. The powerhouse behind hits like “Cry Pretty” took to Instagram on Monday, December 30, to share her heartfelt reasoning behind stepping away after an incredible 12-year run.
Carrie’s announcement came with a reflective tone, as she reminisced about what she called “one of the highlights of 2019 and of my entire career so far.” She shared how proud she felt being on stage alongside country legends Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton. "I’m so proud that we could celebrate the incredible female artists who are part of the legacy of country music, from the past, the present, and looking ahead to the future," Carrie expressed. "I’m thankful for the massive audiences all over the world who tuned in to watch us shine." Reflecting further, she added, "It’s hard to believe that it was my 12th year hosting, and I will always treasure every single show—from the 11 years I was lucky enough to share the stage with my partner in crime and lifelong friend, Brad Paisley, to this year, where I got to share the spotlight with two of my all-time heroes."

Carrie went on to express her deep gratitude to everyone who has been a part of the CMA Awards journey over the years. "It’s hard to imagine surpassing what we've achieved together," she admitted. "So, I’ve made the decision to pass the hosting torch—at least for now—to others who will cherish and honor it as much as I have. I’ve got so many exciting things coming in the new year and beyond, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for all of us. #Blessed #MemorableMoments," she concluded.
