When Jodie Sweetin joined the cast of Full House in 1987 to play Stephanie Tanner, she didn’t realize she was about to gain more than just a TV role—she was stepping into a family that would last a lifetime. Bob Saget, who portrayed her on-screen father, recently opened up to Closer Weekly, sharing how he felt truly "paternal" toward the now 37-year-old actress. That connection wasn’t just part of their on-screen dynamic; it went much deeper.
A Lasting Paternal Connection
Bob, who has three daughters of his own, explained the bond he formed with Jodie during the show’s run. He reminisced about the times when his daughter Aubrey, then 7 years old, would play with Jodie, who was 9 at the time. “They would hang out, sleepovers happened, and I always felt this natural connection with everyone,” Bob shared in an interview at the Cool Comedy – Hot Cuisine event benefiting the Scleroderma Research Foundation. He added, “I never saw age as a barrier. These women are family to me, and that’s something I’ll always cherish.”
Extending Beyond the Screen
Of course, Bob wasn’t just a dad to Jodie. He also played father to Candace Cameron-Bure (D.J. Tanner) and the iconic twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who shared the role of Michelle Tanner. When the reboot Fuller House premiered in 2016, most of the original cast reunited, proving that the bond they formed wasn’t confined to the set. Candace, now 43, spoke candidly about the unbreakable friendship they’ve all maintained over the years. “We’re best friends,” she revealed at the 21st Annual HollyRod Foundation’s DesignCare Gala in Malibu. “Even when the show wraps up, we’re not letting go of each other. This connection runs deep, and it’s something we’ll carry forever.”

A Family That Stands Together
The Full House family has been there for one another through every major milestone and challenge. They rallied around John Stamos when he became a dad for the first time to his son, Billy Stamos, and they’ve reportedly stood by Lori Loughlin during her legal troubles. It’s this unwavering support that defines their relationship. As Candace put it, “We’re not just co-workers; we’re family. We show up for each other, whether it’s for work or personal events. We text, call, and even have lunch together every day on set—it’s like group therapy. They’re my people, and I couldn’t ask for better ones.”

The Legacy Lives On
Though Fuller House wrapped its final season and is now available on Netflix, the love and camaraderie among its cast remain as strong as ever. While they may not be working together daily, the ties that bind them are unshakable. As Bob once said, “Family isn’t just blood; it’s the people who lift you up and make you feel whole.” For the Full House cast, that’s exactly what they’ve become—a family in every sense of the word.
